PhilTAG History
Tattoo has a deep connection to our culture as Filipinos; long before the Spaniards conquered our country, the inhabitants of these islands were already wearing tattoos as a status symbol of different tribe all over the archipelago.
As time goes by, the western countries have brought us the modern way of tattooing. There came the machines and improved inks for tattooing. They also gave us some ideas for the designs. But still, there are some people who were still studying their ancestral tattoo.
Ricky C. Sta Ana, the President of PhilTAG (Philippine Tattoo Artists Guild Inc.) has been continuing to promote a high quality and safe tattooing around the country. The group has grown into a large population every now and then. The group is developing the new breed of tattoo artist with new skill and knowledge in modern tattooing.
In the new administration of Ricky Sta. Ana, he’s working hard to uplift the industry by creating some projects to develop the skills and knowledge about tattooing and hygienic aspects of tattooing.
Last year, they had brought the Philippine flag in the international arena of tattoo artists. Coming from their own pockets, they have pursued to participate in the 1st International Tattoo Convention in Bangkok Thailand in which some Filipino artists have won in some categories.
The group has been seeking some support from the government to promote tattooing in this country for the industry can bring tourism in the country. Some of the foreigners visits our country for our tourist’s spots and of course tattoo. Tattoo in our country is cheaper compared to other countries and about the quality, well of course Filipinos are known for our passion for arts and the skills are progressing.
The organization hand in hand with other companies has their annual tattoo competition where you can see the works of different artists in the arena of skills. Everyday the skills of the artists are getting better and better to outwit the competitors.
Now, tattooing has become a fashion statement for others, for some it has a deeper meaning in every design they have. Tattoos are treated as jewelries and for some wearing an artwork forever.
